One now-former Raiders linebacker got an interesting birthday sendoff from the team Monday.
Tanner Muse, a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, was waived by Monday before ever playing a snap with Las Vegas.
The move took some by surprise given his performance so far at training camp.
A surprise: The #Raiders are waiving linebacker Tanner Muse, source said.
Muse was a third-round pick out of Clemson in 2020. Missed his entire rookie season because of a toe injury, but took starter reps throughout camp and was a core special teamer.

But as surprising as the move may or may not have been, the move itself wasn’t the worst of it.
The Raiders’ official Twitter account wished Muse a happy birthday at noon ET, just over an hour after it was reported he would be waived.
Muse, who turned 25, was a two-time national champion at Clemson, two-time All-ACC player and a third-team All-American in 2019.
He’s the second of two 2020 third-round picks to be waived by the team before ever playing a snap for them, the other being former Kentucly running back Lynn Bowden, Jr.
However, as much as Muse’s birthday present may sting in the moment, there’s still a chance he gets a much nicer, much more welcome belated birthday present down the line.
The Tanner Muse cut may not be for good but as of right now the Raiders have let go two of their 2020 third-round picks — Muse and Lynn Bowden Jr. — before they played a regular season snap for the franchise. Not great.
